He was born in Vienna and studied at the Vienna Academy of Arts, Austria but resided in South Africa from 1939. A painter of landscapes, portraits, figures, religious themes and still life, particularly of flowers. From 1958 to the mid 1960s he painted a number of abstract works. He taught art in Pretoria and participated in numerous group exhibitions held throughout Europe and in South Africa. He also held several solo exhibitions in South Africa and Milan, Italy. He was awarded Honorary Proferssorship by the President of Austria on the recommendation of the Vienna Academy of Art.
